Death: Download (2005)
My rating: 4/10
Ich bin plötzlich sehr froh, dass die Zeit, in der ich einen leicht peinlichen Goatee hatte, nicht auf Film verewigt wurde. Die diversen Matrix-Cosplays waren allerdings sehr süß.
Suddenly I am very glad that my "slightly embarrassing goatee" phase was not immortalized on film. Very cute matrix cosplays, though.

thinking once again about the delicious concept of Talanah having deeper and more numerous hang-ups about sex than Aloy would...
When it comes to the act itself, at least. We all know Aloy has a metric fuckton of interpersonal baggage to work through, and she's certainly gotten started on that. But I think, in an early established relationship with the two of them on equal ground communication-wise, she'd be way more clearheaded about the act of sex specifically.
The Nora are an incredibly sex-positive tribe, as long as it don't result in babies outside of a sanctioned mate blessing. They use contraceptives liberally ("my sister stopped taking her tea!") and same-sex couplings are accepted and not outside of the social norm. While the tribal leadership is a matriarchy specifically based on the merit of having progeny, the rest of their society is an egalitarian one.
Rost, as a devout Nora, would've felt the same way about sex. And he would have impressed these ideas upon Aloy--with frankness, with no nonsense or baggage (since there's no social backing for it)--in preparation for her to join the tribe after her Proving, as was his wish. I think any angst Aloy would have about sex would be connected to her heaps of internalized otherness rather than upbringing--but if that was settled beforehand, I don't think she'd feel shame about the act itself.
The Carja, on the other hand. lmao.
Unlike the Nora, we don't have a canon outline of their attitude toward sex specifically--however, one can infer that it would fall into the rest of their patriarchal societal structure. They're kinda Catholic-lite, if you will, but make it the Sun. Only a couple blips of ambient dialogue give reference to it and they're mostly played for idle laughs.
We know Talanah herself is a badass and hellbent on breaking social barriers--but I think it's also interesting to view her through the lens of also being a product of not only Carja society at large, but also a noble upbringing. I just think it's fascinating, character-wise, to think of her having no shame or trepidation about kicking down the door of the Lodge--but still having to fight internalized shame about sex, when it comes down to it. Obviously, that wouldn't be a part of her everyday behavior we've seen portrayed. But it's just so compelling to think about from a theoretical standpoint.
AND it ties pretty much directly into the Comphet Talanah Hypothesis. Shame about sex is one thing--shame about having and/or wanting to have sex with women is another thing entirely. To me, in-game evidence points to the idea that the Carja are at least somewhat tolerant of same-sex couples in the peasantry. But I do see it being viewed as very very very much against the grain for the upper class, because noble patriarchy. Not downright condemned as sinful in and of itself, but regarded and responded to with an extreme amount of otherness as one falls out of line re: their "rightful duty" to their Khane. For a noble who is gay, lots of repression, lots of internalized homophobia.
So consider Talanah. Already othered to the point of some pretty bitter social rejection, as we see in HZD. Why would she, as a noble with the ingrained upbringing that comes with it, want to embrace that part of herself and bring more otherness upon herself? If she's going to feel shame about sex and baggage about sexual relationships, wouldn't it just be easier to make herself take the path of least resistance and have it be with a man? Because at least that's what she's supposed to do. Right? And she barely even has the language for anything else. Even though she's never really done anything she's "supposed to do" before. Maybe it would just be better to do that, for once. But why does that feel so wrong? Why does it feel like she's going against herself? Why does the thought of being with a man actually make her recoil? That’s what she’s supposed to want, isn’t it? After everything why does this make her want to hide? Why can't she stop thinking about Aloy? Aloy's hands, Aloy's mouth? Why can't this one Sun-damned thing just be easy?
Just. Ough. I love that this concept puts another line of give and take into their developing relationship. Talanah helping Aloy come further out of her internalized isolation through shared experience--Aloy helping Talanah come out of her internalized sexual shame and homophobia thanks to her own lack of baggage surrounding the two.
I have so many moment-specific headcanons about all of this BUT this is already long enough so I'll just spare you and leave you with the meta. for now. (that's a threat)

WIP OF THE DAY
@setavvo I am surprised and confused, but I am very pleased. Thank you! This is a small WIP to my long fic.
"Rost tried to be a caring father, but sometimes it seemed to me …" She looked around, plunging into memories. "That he did not understand that the child needed not only a bowl of hot food and clothes with a bed. I never doubted his love. He loved me. As only he could. Protection. Shelter. Survival. Training without interruption. Sometimes I saw him take out a carved figure of a watcher, furtively rubbing it and examining it. You know, it was worn and chipped in many places, and the wood was slightly cracked where the tail and back joined. He hid it as soon as he saw me looking. I think the toy belonged to his daughter. It is possible that, despite the fact that part of him never lost love for his daughter and wife, he regretted that he was not with them, but were... well, where do they get to after death. Into the Void or into the Abyss. It doesn't matter. But the duty of the Mother of All is above all, as he told me. Apparently this and his love for me made him live and continue to breathe. But he just didn't find a place for… extra warmth between us. For frankness. For… I do not know how to explain it."
"He was hurt and he was lost. I'm glad he was able to take care of you. Need to have the courage to do this without relying on the past, no matter how much it hurts."
"Yes… but I… sometimes it was hard for me to accept his stubbornness. He believed in the Goddess. He did not accept the facts that indicated that the goddess did not exist. He talked about the stars, about the sun and about fire. About the path that the ancestors passed - Nora and why it is important. About the magic Mother's milk that spilled in the sky, so that children would always remember her maternal love. It was so important to him… I listened to these stories, taught them and repeated them word for word. I sang songs Nora. One day he led me to the wall, so that we would not be noticed. He left me alone in the grass and told me to listen. I listened to… poems and songs. It was sung by matriarchs and older women… it wasn't… important to me. They were about one thing: about motherhood, about military glory in protecting the tribe and in faith to the Mother Goddess. About how the earth and machines were born. There was nothing real about it, Kotallo. Rost said that I should know them, because I am a future woman from the Nora tribe." She smiled mirthlessly, pushing back the hair that hid her face from her forehead. She looked sideways and rubbed her neck, stirring the boiling water with herbs with her other hand. "I once told him that all his legends are mouse nonsense. Everything in them is not true, but this…" She touched her focus with her finger, "is the truth. He… became more silent than usual. Didn't talk to me, and then… left. Didn't come back until morning. Even more gloomy, and… He didn't talk to me for a long time. Only after a while did he say that I HAD to believe if I wanted to become part of the tribe. I was ten or so."
"I once heard the phrase, from Fashav: "Don't take away a person's faith, sometimes that's all they need to exist and live.""
She twisted her face, snorting indignantly.
"My rational mind doesn't quite understand that. You can live for other things: for a higher purpose. For the sake of saving the world." She appreciated the chuckle from his chest by nudging him. "Don't laugh, Marshal Who-Flying-on-the-wings-of-Ten. For… Revenge. Everyone is looking for what they like. But to believe in a creature or creatures that no one has seen… it's stupid. Irrational.
"You're right, you can't believe in GAIA either. According to this logic, it does not exist. Because no one, except our family, has seen it and cannot feel it. Well, or except for those with whom she spoke through focus. Do you get it, my wing?" Kotallo agreed and intercepted her hand, which was rushing to his shoulder. He kissed her knuckles and touched the inside of her warm palm with a smile. "How did we move from talking about your past to talking about higher powers?"
"You started provoking me." She grumbled.
"Sometimes songs… are songs. What the soul requires. Tenakth chose the word, but we sing if it's big celebrate, or we need to tune in to the battle or sing in honor of the Beginning of a new cycle. Each tribe has its own stories. And sometimes… you just have to listen and try to understand what is important to others. Here."
He touched the place where her heart was pounding.
"You're too wise for a man whose whole life is a battle."
"I can hear and have learned patience. In patience I learned to reason…"
She grunted, pulling him in for a kiss.
"I know… And I love you for that and for a thousand other reasons…"

The former Bundesliga goalkeeper Frank Rost has in one SkyInterview critical of his former club’s crisis Werder Bremen uttered. Especially trainers Florian Kohfeldt attacked rust with sometimes sharp words. “This is all too much explanation and complaining”said Rost about Kohfeldt, who “is constantly upset about the full-backs” or is talking about injured players. Translation Throwback Series (Part II): Julian Brandt Interview (September 10, 2014)
This is an interview during Julian’s first major injury where he wasn’t able to play. He talks about his injury, his love for Werder Bremen and he also talks about Marco Reus and his english skills.
Mr. Brandt, thank you for not having canceled our interview appointment despite your injury. How are you?
Ju: It is slowly going upwards for me again. It was a shock, of course. But it could have gotten worse too. I'll be back in a few weeks.
How bitter is it, as a native of Bremen to be absent against Werder Bremen?
Ju: Very bitter. It would have been even worse if the match were in Bremen. I would have been annoyed.
Are you still a Werder fan?
Ju: Of course. then you can not forget that, if you were born there. I myself was standing in the fan curve - in the really good times of Werder with Diego, Özil and all the others. It’s a club close to my heart.
Did you have Werder posters in your room at that time?
Ju: I did not have so many posters, but a jersey for almost every season - and I got the gloves from Frank Rost as a small child. They were the size of my whole leg. That was a great time.
As a "Werder fan" – are you sad that the glorious times are over in Bremen?
Ju: It's a pity. Werder had a great standing in the Bundesliga, they were just behind Bayern at the time. I'm currently a bit sorry for the Bremen fans. They always try to cheer on their team to victory. The people in the fan curve are fine. That's why I hope for them that they are at least back in the top half of the Bundesliga standings.
There are many stories why you didn‘t choose Werder but Wolfsburg instead during your youth. So what’s the true story?
Ju: My heart told me to go to Werder. But then Wolfsburg put forward an offer and I looked at it. I was offered such outstanding perspectives there, so my head said: Wolfsburg is better for me at this moment. Which turned out to be true. But I'm still young, maybe I will eventually land at Werder.
Who do you know from the current Werder team?
Ju: A few youth players who have not yet come into action in the Bundesliga. And of course Davie Selke from the U19 national team. I would like to play against him. I will definitely say hello when I see him.
How often are you in Bremen these days?
Ju: I just went to the Ailton game. I sat with my family over the fan curve. It was really funny, looking at him playing again.
Let's get to Leverkusen: Why is Bayer so strong this season?
Ju: It’s crazy! We grew together. We do more stuff outside of football, that was not the case last season. Everyone runs for everyone. The coach did a good job there. And of course we have super individual players.
You have already mentioned coach Roger Schmidt: What distinguishes him?
Ju: He is a great guy. He talks a lot to the players. We like his system of play. It is very special - maybe comparable to Dortmund. Nobody else is playing this system in the league.
How would you describe this system?
Ju: It's a modern form of counterpressing. The coach once said that it would be better for us if the opponent has the ball.
Something you do not have to understand that at first, right?
Ju: That's right. But it really makes sense, because we fight the ball so deep in the opponent's half by counterpressing so that we immediately create opportunities. That's our strength.
You have only been playing for Leverkusen since January and played in the Bundesliga and Champions League as a 17-year-old. Can you even grasp this rapid development?
Ju: Sometimes you really have to rub your eyes. It's a dream.
It is always said that the jump from youth to professional football is extremely big. How did you feel?
Ju: It's a big jump, sure. But you also need a bit of luck. Like with me. I benefited from Sydney Sam‘s injury. If you are then subbed, of course you have to be there. That worked for me.
What's the most fun in the Bundesliga?
Ju: Playing in front of so many spectators. If you get to play in Dortmund in front of 80,000 people, then you get no fear, but it's just endless fun.
How hard is it to stay on the ground?
Ju: My parents would make me very, very clear, if I would get some sort of star behaviour. In addition, we have no players in Leverkusen with that kind of behaviour, so you can adapt well.
Where do you have to improve?
Ju: The old topic of defensive work continues to be my top priority. I do too little from my scoring chances which personally annoys me. I have to be cooler with that.
It is said that Marco Reus is your role model. Who did you like in Bremen?
Ju: Marco Reus is not a role model for me, but one of my favorite players. We play the same position. Of course, I'm looking at this style of play. And of course Diego was my favorite player at Werder. I believe he had 480 jerseys from him (laughs). When I moved to Wolfsburg, I even had the honor to train with him. This guy is just amazing.
Do you still have contact with him?
Ju: I actually talked to him back then - in English. And then I was really surprised how well I speak English (laughs). But we don‘t have any contact anymore.
Do you occasionally talk to your teammate Karim Bellarabi, who is also from Bremen, about Werder?
Ju: Of course. He is also looking forward to this game. He was also in Bremen on the weekend and is highly motivated.
Will he score on Friday?
Ju: Karim has exploded this summer, I would expect everything from him.
How do think will the score be after the game?
Ju: I hope it will be a victory for us.
Wouldn’t you be a bit sad as a Werder fan?
Ju: Let's put it this way: If I could ever allow a team somehow to score and make points against us, then Werder.

While Waiting for Season 4
There was a time when I laughed out load and hard during the catfights and shades between the ladies in RHOA. But thankfully the ladies in RHOP arrived with a bang and they just makes me laugh so hard.
Karen Huger has me laughing out loud a lot of times. I had a appreciation post for her a couple of years back, but I honestly could’ve had one for all of the ladies.
To pick a favourite among these ladies are hard, because I don’t dislike any of them. Well, perhaps I’m not a fan of Katie Rost but I don’t hate her like she’s some kind of villain on the show. But I have to say that I have a special soft spot for Ashley Darby. She has been through hell on the show and she’s so refreshingly honest in her situations. The same can not be said for Karen, who tried to defuse the fraud scandal last season.
Now I adore Monique Samuels. She’s just so adorable that I can’t keep being critical of how she spins things. She absolutely tried to upset Gizelle Bryant by bringing the ex-wife of her new date to a party. She probably used Charrisse Jackson-Jordan for her contacts, I can see that. I also believe Ashleys story about the car accident. Despite all of that I still adore her.
Robyn Dixon has by far one of the most bizzare storyline ever of the Housewives at Bravo. Living together with her divorced husband, who lost everything due to a friend ripped them off. And last season they had the crazy session with a medium (even though I don’t believe that kind of things). Robyn by herself may not be the most interesting wife, but she’s a voice of reason among the girls.
Another lady who often is the voice of reason is Gizelle, but she’s also one of the most messy of all the ladies. I like it when we get to see her preacher wife side because I adore that side of Gizelle. We don’t get to see such calmness and frankness from a good place often, I want to see more of that. But she also fires of like a pistol when threatened. She’s one of the shadiest and most beautiful of all the housewives on Bravo.
Last but not least there’s the last years newbie Candiace Dillard – and never forget: she came from Jesus. She’s bubbley, funny and always too much. She’s a weird mix of being too sensitive and not taking herself too serious. I love the fact that she can’t stop singing or that her hands are all over the place while talking. Her facial expressions are priceless and I adore how fiercely loyal she is – even when I think that she’s betting on the wrong horse.
Over and all, it’s hard not to love these ladies. I can’t wait for season 4 to start!
